1842 Springfield
1842 Springfield
History
The 1842 Springfield was the first percussion musket produced by the US national armories and the last regulation smoothbore. During the ten years that they were manufactured, more than 275,000 were produced. Except for the lock and firing system, the musket was almost identical to the earlier 1840 Springfield.
They were produced by the Springfield and Harper’s Ferry armories as well as by private contractors. The arms produced at Springfield and Harper’s Ferry featured interchangeable parts.
The 1842 Springfield saw service during the Mexican War and was used extensively by both Union and Confederate forces during the Civil War.
Our Reproduction
Our 1842 Springfield musket is an accurate reproduction of this important arm. It features a .69 caliber smoothbore barrel, hardwood stock, two-piece nose-cap with brass sight, and a bright finish.
Living historians will appreciate that it requires no defarbing and has period markings. Because our reproduction has an 1846 date, it is suitable for both Mexican War and Civil War re-enactors.
Like all of our muskets, it comes with a limited warranty. Bayonets are available for purchase with the musket.
